Common light sources include low pressure sodium ("LPS"), high pressure sodium ("HPS"), or metal state and light emitting diode lamps ("LEDs"). LPS are very energy efficient and are often used for outdoor lighting in public areas. The pleasant light of the LPS ensures increased visual comfort and thus safety. They ensure high-contrast vision even in haze and fog in dark times of the year. LEDs have the advantage of being able to switch on and off within a very short time. This also makes this lighting variant particularly energy-efficient. If necessary, they can be switched off and restored to their full brightness. In this way they reduce light pollution.

Because scientific studies have proven that they are durable and energy efficient, the existing lighting in many cities was replaced by LEDs and they were quickly used across the board. However, we know that the color of the light is also a crucial criterion for choosing the right lighting. Both LED and Metal Halide lights contain high levels of blue light. Because blue light illuminates the night sky more than any other colored light, it is extremely important that the amount of emission is minimized. Exposure to blue light at night is known to be harmful to human health and endangers wildlife. We therefore recommend using light with temperatures above 3000 Kelvin.
